Al-Shabaab Fighter Charged in US over Plans to Conduct 9/11-Style Attacks

An Al-Shabaab fighter has been charged in a United States court over plans to conduct terror attacks fashion in the 9/11 style.

The militant is of Kenyan origin and is suspected of belonging to the militia group.

US Department of Justice identified the Kenyan as Cholo Abdi Abdullah, a 30-year old male.

Abdullah is facing up to six counts of terrorism-related offences. Among these include operating as an Al-Shabaab fighter, conspiring to hijack an airplane, and planning to carry out a terror attack in the United States.

Authorities believe that Abdullah received his training in the Far East.

The US authorities brought him to the country on December 15, 2020 to answer to the court charges after he was arrested in Philippines on July 2019.

He appeared before Magistrate Judge Robert Lehrburger of the Manhattan Federal Court though the matter has been assigned to United States District Judge Analisa Torres.
