Abdirahman Omar Abdi, a member of one of the most notorious militant groups in the Horn of Africa region, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

A military court sitting in Mogadishu found him guilty of being in a group featuring other militants who attacked a military base in Belet-Amin.

He was arrested while injured after ambushing the military base with his colleagues. On September 20, 2019, Omar Abdi was then handed over to security forces.

On February 17, 2020, the court ruled that Abdi had a case to answer. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, he was arrested in combat with injuries to his leg.

Moreover, the Prosecutor’s Office also says that Abdi had taken part in other attacks. They cited his involvement in the attacks at Golweyn, Barawe, Bulo Marer, and Barrie.
