Al-Shabaab fighters have defected in Galgadud to the government side over the rising drought in the region.
Two militants who surrendered in the Eeldheer district are now in police custody.
They were identified as Hussein Dahir Maalin and Alas Ibrahim Ahmed Barre.
While surrendering on Tuesday, they cited reasons that included the rising cases of hunger and thirst in the region.
Further, they added their displeasure with Al-Shabaab’s policies.
Maalin and Barre mentioned that the group’s policies went against the dictates of their Islamic religion.
