Reports from Beledweyne in Hiran indicate that Al-Shabaab fighters in the region fired mortar shells at a National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) base.
Security authorities in the region stated that the attack took place on Wednesday morning.
During the attack, at least three Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers were injured and rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Nevertheless, government soldiers present at the site repulsed the attack with heavy artillery fire of their own.
Al-Shabaab militants took off from the scene with SNA and NISA security agents in hot pursuit.
