Al-Shabaab militants launched one of the most daring attacks at a military base in the Middle Shabelle region.
Reports from the region indicate that the terrorists attacked the army base at Hawadley, a village in the Middle Shabelle region.
The attack took place early on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, the militants launched their attack in the village, which is in Bal’ad district, with three car explosions.
Thereafter, gunfire rent the air as the militants exchanged fire with army personnel.
Colonel Abshir Mohamud Mohamed, a Somali National Army (SNA) commander with the 3rd Battalion of the 27th Division, is believed to have lost his life in the shootout.
