Al-Shabaab is not in control of the regional state of Galmudug, a local minister said during an interview with the media.
Ahmed Shire Falagle, the Galmudug Minister of Information, made this revelation during his Friday, August 27 interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
In his interview, Falagle stated that the militants haven’t taken over Ba’adweyne and Amara, two villages in Galmudug.
The minister said that the reports to this effect were nothing but “propaganda” that Al-Shabaab militants had been spreading.
Further, he also denied reports that security forces had been withdrawn from the region.
“We see no strategic benefit in withdrawing our troops the region. If anything, we’re looking at ways of advancing them further,” stated Falagle.
