Al-Shabaab Kills Four in a Raid in Mandera Amid Ongoing Tensions in Gedo

Al-Shabaab has staged several deadly attacks in Kenya’s northeastern town of Mandera. A top official of the extremist group has confirmed that they killed four Kenyans. The attacks come in the wake of increased tensions in Gedo.

In the attack, the militants attacked several villages for close to three hours. Jabi-bar, a village in Rhamu, felt the brunt of the attacks. The militias kidnapped several non-locals too while destroying property of unknown value.

Governor Ali Roba of Mandera County said, “We have entertained foreign forces in the country. Consequently, we have opened the gateway for Al-Shabaab to come and have a field day. We are now vulnerable to attacks from the extremist group.

He also blamed KDF for putting more attention on the wrangles pitting Somali National Army against Jubaland forces while abdicating their constitutional roles of protecting the country’s territorial integrity.

Kenya Police have not issued any statement either confirming or denying the latest attacks. The latest attack represents the 17th time that Al-Shabaab has hit Kenya hard while butchering more than 20 individuals in the process.
