Al-Shabaab Kills Governor and His 3 Aides in Lower Jubba

On Wednesday morning, Al-Shabaab killed the governor (District Commissioner) of Ras Kamboni District in a blast.

Multiple sources confirmed that the attack was aimed at KDF troops serving in Somalia under the ambit of AMISOM.

Governor Abdullahi Diriye died right on the spot. He unknowingly drove his vehicle into a landmine that Al-Shabaab had planted on the road.

Since 2011 when it lost Ras Kamboni after intervention by KDF troops and Ras Kamboni Brigade, the militants have made several unsuccessful attempts to reclaim it.

Other than the District Commissioner, the blast also killed his two bodyguards. His driver also succumbed to injuries sustained during the explosion.

The scene of the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blow up is 8kms away from the Lower Jubba town of Ras Kamboni.

News regarding his destination at the time of his death remains sketchy. However, he was under the protection of KDF soldiers when the IED exploded. Several soldiers sustained injuries.
