The Al-Shabaab leader who was killed this week in a joint military operation had a $10 million bounty on his head.
Maalim Ayman had been on the books of the United States government since 2020 when he masterminded a terror attack at a military base in Kenya.
Somali troops worked closely with the US forces to launch an operation that caused Ayman’s death.
Daud Aweis, the Somali Minister of Information, confirmed Ayman’s killing on Thursday.
Aweis added that Ayman had been responsible for several terror attacks carried out in Somalia and the nearby countries in the region.
