A senior Al-Shabaab leader surrendered to the military in Lower Shabelle.
Reports from the region added that Nur Abdi Mahmud Umar is now in police custody.
Umar handed himself over to the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) on Thursday.
Umar, who has led the militia group for the last 10 years, surrendered to the military at Awdheegle.
