Several Al-Shabaab militants were killed on Saturday while attempting to raid a police station in Jalalaqsi.
Security officials in the region confirmed that at least two militants were killed in the Saturday night incident.
Witnesses said that the militants attacked the police station in their dozens.
However, they were repulsed by a team of police officers patrolling the town. An intense gunfight ensued and lasted for several hours.
Eventually, security agents got the better of the extremists who fled the scene after two of their colleagues had been gunned down.
Multiple sources indicated that no police officer was killed or injured in this weekend’s incident.
Security authorities have since launched an operation in the area to smoke out the extremists who fled into the nearby bushes.
