Al-Shabaab Militants Take Control of Bal’ad Town for Few Hours

Al-Shabaab militants took control of Bal’ad town in Somalia for a few hours on Thursday, December 30.

The town is in northwest Somalia.

According to sources, the Al-Shabaab militants stormed Bal’ad town, which is roughly 37kms to the north of Mogadishu.

Bal’ad is strategic with the military.

Eyewitnesses said that the extremists launched repeated attacks at the town before taking control.

Nevertheless, Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers responded to the attack a few hours later and took back control.

It’s not clear how many people lost their lives in Thursday’s events.
