Al-Shabaab is opposed to the 10-year defense and economic cooperation agreement that Somalia signed with Turkey recently.
In a statement published on Thursday, Al-Shabaab called the agreement “unlawful”.
It added that the agreement “represents yet another instance of the Machiavellian and hegemonic ambitions that Turkey has for the region.”
For years, Al-Shabaab has continuously attacked Turkish citizens in Somalia.
Currently, Turkey supports the Somali military with equipment with which to carry out the ongoing offensives against Al-Shabaab around the country.
As part of the agreement, Turkey will help to build a new Somali Navy.
