Al-Shabaab militants engaged Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) troops in a fierce gunfight in Lower Jubba on Sunday.
According to witnesses and security authorities, the gunfight erupted when militants attacked a base that belongs to KDF troops.
Residents reported a heavy exchange of fire between the two sides that lasted several hours.
No casualties have been confirmed although residents who witnessed the skirmishes say that several people on both sides could have been killed.
KDF is yet to issue any comment on the fight.
However, the Al-Qaeda linked group has confirmed that its fighters took part in the gunfight. They claimed that their fighters also destroyed the KDF base camp.
