Al-Shabaab militants conducted a raid on the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) base in southern Somalia.
The militants raided the army base on January 23.
Security reports from the region indicate that the attack took place an ENDF army base located in Gedo, Jubbaland.
Al-Shabaab confirmed its role in the incident through friendly media outlets.
According to its proxy media outlets, the Al-Qaeda linked militia group claimed that it killed two ENDF soldiers during the Saturday attack.
Reports indicate that the militants launched mortar shells at the army base, which is home to hundreds of ENDF soldiers.
Gedo has witnessed prolonged anxiety, uncertainty, and clashes over the last few months.
Primarily, insecurity has increased substantially in the region as Al-Shabaab adherents grow bolder and more daring in their attacks.
ENDF is yet to respond to Al-Shabaab’s claims. African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) is also yet to offer any comment on the matter.
