Al-Shabaab Recapture Leego Town from Government Troops

Al-Shabaab militants recaptured Leego town from Somali National Army (SNA) troops on Tuesday, October 20.

Residents confirmed that SNA troops had briefly captured the town this week from the extremists.

According to the residents, the extremists stormed the region this week, fished out the SNA soldiers, and retook the town forcefully.

The incident is a blemish on the efforts by the UN-backed Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) government to eliminate Al-Shabaab from the East African nation.

Joint military efforts between SNA, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and US Africa Command (AFRICOM) troops are yet to yield long-lasting fruits.

Security experts confirm that Al-Shabaab remains in control of huge swathes of central and southern Somalia.
