Al-Shabaab claimed that retired General Mohamed Nur Galal was the target of the terror attack it carried out at Afrik Hotel in Mogadishu.
The militia group issued a statement via its friendly media outlets stating that it targeted Gen. Galal in the January 31 raid.
Gen. Galal was among nine people who lost their lives in the deadly attack on Sunday evening.
Al-Shabaab said that they targeted Gen. Galal over his role in the death of Aden Ayrow, a former senior Al-Shabaab leader.
Ayrow was killed in 2008 when the United States military carried out a drone attack on the location where he was hiding.
Nevertheless, Al-Shabaab is yet to provide any evidence to back up their claim against Gen. Galal over his role in Ayrow’s death.
