Latest reports from Somalia indicate that Al-Shabaab has been targeting Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) troops with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
On January 9, 2021 KDF troops serving under African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) came under intense attack from members of the militia group.
Saturday’s attack is the latest evidence of the growing insecurity in Somalia.
The East African nation has been on the receiving end of numerous attacks by members of the Al-Qaeda linked group.
Reports from Somalia show that Al-Shabaab fighters targeted two KDF vehicles with IEDs.
The latest attack comes at a time the United States military has been making plans to withdraw its troops from Somalia.
Additionally, the attack comes as Somalia plans to hold elections this month.
Although the two KDF vehicles were badly damaged, it is not clear how many KDF soldiers were injured or killed in the incident.
