Al-Shabaab Won’t Take over Mogadishu, Declares Robow

In a bold statement, Somalia’s Religious Minister Mukhtar Robow Abu Mansur declared, “Mogadishu isn’t Kabul,” as he sought to quell worries about Al-Shabaab’s potential takeover of the capital.

This statement comes in response to growing concerns following the terror group’s recent territorial gains in the Middle Shabelle region, which is close to Mogadishu.

Robow’s remark appears to draw a distinction between the situations in Somalia and Afghanistan, where the Taliban successfully seized control of Kabul in 2021.

By emphasizing that Mogadishu is not Kabul, he aims to reassure the public and international observers that the Somali government and its security forces are capable of preventing a similar outcome, despite Al-Shabaab’s advances.

The comment also underscores the government’s determination to resist the militant group’s influence and maintain stability in the capital.

However, Al-Shabaab’s recent gains highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by Somalia, as the group continues to exploit vulnerabilities in the region.

The situation remains tense, and the government’s ability to counter Al-Shabaab’s threats will be critical in the coming months.
