National Security Intelligence Agency (NISA) of Somalia announced that the Benadir Region chief of Al-Shabaab has been killed. The chief, Musa Moalim, was killed in Buale District, Middle Juba region. NISA announced that his death occurred last night.
His death comes hot in the heels of a recent call for the arrest of Omar Mohamed, who heads security operations in Benadir Region. The arrest orders came from Ahmed Diriye, the leader of the extremist group in Somalia.
NISA posted a tweet announcing the killing. In the tweet it said, “Musa Moaliam was killed at midnight. At the time of his assassination, Moalim had resigned from Al-Shabaab, where he worked as head of security in the Benadir region.”
Other than the tweet from NISA, news of Moalim’s assassination is yet to appear on any other reputable media outlet. Furthermore, Al-Shabaab has not released any statement confirming Moalim’s execution.
