Mohamed Abdullahi Salat, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, announced plans to register and license all airlines operating in Somalia.
However, Salat was quick to clarify that the licensing is only open to airlines that satisfy and comply with all existing aviation rules in the country.
Salat promised that his ministry would fast track the process.
Furthermore, the transport and aviation minister said the move is aimed at boosting the local economy, which has been in the doldrums for years.
Salat said the process would kick off in July 2020 when most nations around the world would have lifted the COVID-19 restrictions, which include opening up their skies.
