The United Kingdom Ambassador to Somalia, Mike Nithavrianakis, visited Berbera Port on Monday to inspect several investments in the region.

During his visit, he highlighted the transformative impact of UK investments in the region, particularly the rehabilitation of the Berbera-Burao road, which has significantly improved transportation efficiency by reducing travel times by 40%.
This infrastructure upgrade is expected to enhance trade, connectivity, and economic opportunities for local communities.
Furthermore, UK investments have contributed to the creation of 1,300 jobs in the port and Special Economic Zone (SEZ), providing employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.
Additionally, the establishment of a market for over 60 women fish traders demonstrates a focus on inclusive growth and empowerment, particularly for women in the region.
These initiatives reflect the UK’s recognition of Berbera’s strategic potential as a key economic hub in Somaliland and its broader efforts to foster sustainable development and stability in the region.
