US Ambassador to Somalia, Donald Yamamoto, has welcomed news that President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia officially recognized Ahmed Madobe as the President of Jubbaland State.
Yesterday, President Farmaajo finally put his animosity towards President Madobe aside to acknowledge his administration.
Madobe came into office last year in August after winning the Jubbaland presidential elections against a candidate that Farmaajo’s administration backed.
Since then, Farmaajo has refused to acknowledge Madobe as the rightfully elected leader of the state, an act that has increased tension between Mogadishu and Jubbaland.
Ambassador Yamamoto said this could help to cool down some of the tension that has been rising up between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States.
