AMISOM and SNA Committed to Joint Military Operations

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has reiterated its commitment to holding joint military operations with Somali National Army (SNA).

The joint military operations are crucial in ensuring the success of the fight against Al-Shabaab militants in Somalia.

On Thursday October 8, top military officers from both sides signed an agreement geared towards this by establishing a Joint Operations Coordination Cell.

Lt. Gen. Diomede Ndegeya, AMISOM’s Force Commander, signed the agreement with Brig. Gen. Abas Amin Ali, the Commander of SNA’s Land Forces.

The newly signed agreement is part of fulfilling the requirement imposed by UN Security Council Resolution 2520 (2020).

Under that resolution, AMISOM is required to not only reconfigure but also enhance its operations in Somalia.
