AMISOM Demands More Action to Stop Gender Based Violence

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has urged the East African nation to reverse the incidences of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), which seem to be on the rise.

AMISOM issued a communiqué on November 27 asking Somalis to engage in 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

The call comes in the midst of increasing cases of gender-based violence in the Horn of Africa region.

Lately, several women and young girls have been abused physically and sexually in Somalia.

The government has been under intense pressure to introduce new laws and policies to eliminate the vice.

It is yet to present the Sexual Offences Bill to parliament for discussions and approval.

AMISOM encourages leaders and other stakeholders to work together to end SGBV.
