African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has denied involvement in the recent deadly clashes in central Somalia.
Recently, deadly clashes pitting government forces against Ahlu Sunna militants broke out in the Galmudug town of Guri-El.
Somali National Army (SNA) working closely with Galmudug regional forces drove the militants out of town after three days of fighting that started on October 23.
AMISOM had been accused of having a hand in the clashes.
According to Ahlu Sunna militia, AMISOM had supplied the government forces with weapons and ammunition to use in the clashes.
However, AMISOM released a statement dated October 28 refuting the allegations.
AMISOM expressed “deep concerns” over the accusations leveled against it.
Further, AMISOM described the accusations as nothing more than “false, toxic, and malicious.”
