AMISOM Discusses Hate Speech with FEIT and Civil Society Organizations

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) discussed the growing incidences of hate speech with Federal Electoral Implementation Team (FEIT) and representatives of civil society.

AMISOM held this meeting with FEIT and the civil society organizations (CSOs) on January 9.

During their meeting, the three bodies spoke about ways of empowering CSOs to tackle the problem of hate speech in relation to free speech and freedom of expression.

AMISOM reiterated the belief that the role of CSOs in ensuring that Somalia holds peaceful elections is not beyond doubt.

FEIT organized the latest round of talks between the different sides.

AMISOM’s Political Unit also took part in organizing the talks, which were all about ensuring the East African nation holds peaceful elections.

Mohamed Hassan Irro, the Chairperson of the FEIT, recognized the role of CSOs in peaceful elections.
