AMISOM Guarantees Security for Ongoing FGS-FMS Talks on Elections

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has promised to provide security for the electoral crisis talks that kicked off in Mogadishu on March 22.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo invited leaders from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) for the talks.

There have been concerns whether authorities would secure all the participants.

Specifically, leaders from Puntland and Jubbaland had expressed misgivings about the venue for this round of talks.

Their concerns were borne out of the incident that took place last month when opposition leaders were attacked at the hotel where they were staying.

Ambassador Francisco Madeira, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC), assured participants of complete security.

“Let all Somali leaders, stakeholders, and the public be assured that AMISOM officers will guarantee their security during the ongoing talks,” Ambassador Madeira said.

Madeira expressed his expectations regarding the ongoing talks.

He hopes that the leaders meeting in Mogadishu would look at all the issues critically to find solutions.
