AMISOM Repulses Al-Shabaab Raid in Southern Somalia

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces repulsed a possible deadly attack by Al-Shabaab militants in Southern Somalia.

On Saturday, the Ethiopian contingent of AMISOM foiled an attack that the Al-Qaeda linked group had planned in Hiran region.

Al-Shabaab militia attempted to launch a daring raid on Halgan base.

However, the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) launched retaliatory attacks against the extremists.

Eventually, Al-Shabaab fighters took off after skirmishes that lasted several hours.

Local eyewitnesses confirmed that the fight started at around 3am. According to them, the AMISOM forces killed several Al-Shabaab fighters.

Recently, Al-Shabaab has launched multiple attacks in various parts of the country. Their targets range from government officials and troops to AMISOM soldiers and Somali civilians too.

AMISOM deployed its soldiers to Somalia in 2007. Since then, the soldiers have repulsed and flushed out the militants in various parts of the Horn of Africa nation.
