African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has trained 56 police officers in HirShabelle on public order management.
The 56 officers went through the five-day training successfully.
AMISOM sought to equip the officers with skills that enable them to maintain law and order, especially as the regional state joins the rest of the country in preparing for the upcoming elections.
HirShabelle is the only regional state yet to hold its elections for the Upper House seats.
Fifteen women police officers were among those trained.
AMISOM organized the training jointly with the HirShabelle State Ministry of Internal Security.
Eliud Mutama, AMISOM’s Police Coordinator in HirShabelle, said that the training was important for the police officers.
Mohamed Ahmed Kulmiye, the Security Coordinator in the Office of the HirShabelle President, hailed the importance of such trainings in boosting security in the region.
