African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has been carrying out a workshop to train women in the country on human rights.
Dozens of women registered for and attended the online training.
AMISOM targeted women in one of Somalia’s Southwest state, which is one of the country’s semiautonomous regions.
The organization’s officials who conducted the training said they mostly focused on educating the participants on human rights and gender protection.
Eighteen women attended the training, which took place on Tuesday September 1.
The women, who attended the training sponsored by AMISOM’s Protection, Human Rights, and Gender (PHRG), were mostly from Southwest’s administrative capital of Baidoa.
Ambassador Francisco Madeira, AU’s Representative to Somalia, urged the participants to use the information gained from the training to demand for the protection of human rights.
Lately, AMISOM has been conducting several online trainings geared towards imparting locals with knowledge to address the challenges women and children face in Somalia.
