AMISOM Urges Somalis to Report Gender-Based Violence to Police

The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has issued a rallying call to Somalis to report sexual and gender-based violence to police.

According to AMISOM, police have set up desks at police stations to handle incidences of gender-based violence.

Therefore, Somalis should not hold back from taking their complaints or cases to the police.

The continental body, which is in Somalia to help local security agencies to eradicate the presence of militants, reminded Somalis of the professionalism of the police.

It encouraged them to seek “specialized and efficient handling of cases of sexual and gender-based violence” from the police.

Additionally, AMISOM also asked Somalis to speak up on issues of SGBV.

It made this call on November 26 while launching the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence in the East African country.
