The 15-year mandate that African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has enjoyed in the East African nation expires tomorrow.
AMISOM’s mandate officially expires on Thursday, March 31.
In its place, the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) is expected to take over all security-related functions.
ATMIS would then be responsible for handing over these responsibilities to security forces in Somalia.
Over the years, AMISOM had been training security forces in Somalia.
