AMISOM’s Djibouti Contingent Hands over Wells to Beletweyne Residents

Djiboutian soldiers working under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) handed over several water wells to communities in Beletweyne.

The soldiers noted that residents of the administrative capital of Hiiraan region were without access to clean and safe water.

Consequently, the AMISOM soldiers took it upon themselves to seek solutions for this critical matter.

On December 4, several residents were given access to the wells by the Djiboutian contingent.

During Saturday’s handing over ceremony, several families in the region could not hide their joy after realizing that they now had access to clean water for domestic use.

While handing over the facilities, AMISOM said that its soldiers had “funded the construction and repair of five wells in the region.”

AMISOM mentioned that the wells would prove crucial to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the region, especially those living in camps in Bundaweyn village.
