Lt. Gen. Diomede Ndegeya, the new Force Commander of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) visited the headquarters of Sector 1 unit in Mogadishu.
Sector 1 is under the watchful eyes of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
Lt. Gen. Ndegeya made the visit as part of his familiarization tour of all six sectors forming AMISOM.
Sector 1 has a wide jurisdiction that includes Mogadishu and Lower Shabelle. Further, it hosts the headquarters of AMISOM Forces too.
Colonel John Winston Mugarura, the Deputy Commander of the Ugandan Contingent of AMISOM, was on hand to receive Lt. Gen. Ndegeya.
Several top military officers from the headquarters were present too.
Upon his arrival, Ndegeya started by inspecting a guard of honor mounted by Ugandan troops before moving inside for a closed-door meeting with senior AMISOM officers.
