African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) will remain in Somalia for a further three months.
On December 21, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passed a new resolution extending AMISOM’s stay in the East African nation.
Resolution 2614 (2021) allows AMISOM to continue operating in Somalia until March 31, 2022.
Members of the UNSC discussed the issue in detail on Tuesday.
During their discussion, they determined that the current situation in Somalia does not warrant pulling out AMISOM forces.
They described the current situation in Somalia as one constituting a threat to international peace and security.
