The Ugandan contingent of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has appointed a new force commander.
Brig. Gen. Don William Nabasa takes over Brig. Gen. Richard Otto with immediate effect.
Brig. Gen. Otto has been the force commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) over the last one year.
On Thursday, December 17, Brig. Gen. Otto officially handed over the instruments of office to the incoming commander.
Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu presided over the handing over ceremony.
Elwelu is the Commander of the Land Forces of the UPDF.
Lt. Gen. Elwelu said that Brig. Gen. Nabasa had played a crucial role leading the contingent over the last year. He commended him for a sterling job.
He also congratulated Nabasa for appointment as the new force commander.
