African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops from Uganda donated COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPEs) to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Mogadishu.
The Ugandan forces donated the equipment, which included sanitary items too, to an IDP camp in Mogadishu on February 7.
Their donation was designed to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
Each year, Uganda celebrates the day, which is known as “Tarehe Sita.”
This year, Uganda has been celebrating the partnerships it has maintained with some of its partners, including AMISOM.
Several leaders from Hamar Jajab District, where the IDP camp is located, joined the AMISOM forces on Sunday.
Moreover, troops took part in a cleaning exercise in the local market.
Col. John Winston Mugarura, the Deputy Commander of AMISOM’s Ugandan contingent, said that the PPEs would help the IDPs to protect themselves against the deadly disease.
On his part, Mohamed Abdi Ahmed, the District Commissioner of Hamar Jajab, expressed gratitude to AMISOM for the PPEs that would help the IDPs to fight COVID-19 effectively.
