AMISOM’s UPDF Commander Leaves Somalia ahead of Troops Withdrawal

Brig. Gen. Richard Otto, Commander of the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) serving under African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), has left the country.

Otto left Somalia ahead of the expected withdrawal of AMISOM troops from Somalia.

Brig. Gen. Otto has served as part of the AMISOM contingent from Uganda and led the UPDF unit for the last one year.

His forces served in Sector 1.

AMISOM peacekeepers are to start pulling out of Somalia from 2021.

AMISOM held a sending off in Brig. Gen. Otto’s honor in Mogadishu on Sunday, December 20.

Brig. Gen. Otto was celebrated as a “diligent and tenacious” AMISOM Commander who implemented the mission’s mandate efficiently and professionally.

His “experience, leadership, and hard work” were also celebrated.
