Amnesty International has shone more light on the suffering endured by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Somalia.
According to the global human rights organization, IDPs in Somalia are surviving purely “by the grace of God.”
Somalia is grappling with multiple issues that have caused unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
The locust invasion in the country is the worst in the last 25 years. Incessant fighting has also increased the number of IDPs around the country.
Moreover, recurrent droughts, famine, and the ongoing floods have also forced thousands of people to flee their homes for safe grounds.
Consequently, these conditions have led to overcrowding in IDP camps.
The fact that the country is in the midst of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic also means that more Somalis are at risk of losing their lives and livelihoods.
Therefore, the organization urges the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and international partners to ensure that Somalis have access to water, proper sanitation, and health.
