The United States has been urged not to abandon civilian victims of its drone attacks in Somalia.
Recently, President Donald Trump stated that the US would withdraw its military from the East African nation.
Amnesty International urged the US to continue taking care of the victims of its airstrikes against Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
On December 4, the US Department of Defense released a press statement saying that it would be repositioning “majority of its military personnel out of Somalia by January 2021.”
The United States has roughly 700 troops in Somalia.
It has carried out several airstrikes in Somalia this year alone. For a long time, it has faced accusations of maiming or killing many civilians through the airstrikes.
The US military, through the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), denied the injuries and deaths of civilians for years.
However, it started admitting that some of its airstrikes might have caused injuries and deaths to civilians.
Amnesty International said that the US has a moral obligation to continue caring for those killed or injured in its drone attacks.
