Anger Rises in Somalia over Missing Youths Trained in Eritrea Secretly

Somalia is experiencing a sharp rise in anger over missing youths who underwent secret military training in Eritrea.

Over the last two weeks, the country has been debating the issue after a former Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) exposed it first.

Most parents of the missing youths say that they thought their children had been recruited as security guards.

Apparently, the children were then deployed to Tigray to help Ethiopian troops fight rebels in the region once they completed the military training in Eritrea.

Some of the parents allege that NISA officers then visited and awarded them $10,000 as compensation for losing their children.

According to the former NISA director, over 370 Somali youths lost their lives in November 2020 while fighting in Tigray.

Several parents indicate that their children were reportedly hired to work as security guards in Qatar last year but have never been heard from since.

Now, there is mounting pressure for the government to issue a detailed report on the missing children, as soon as possible.
