Anti-Miraa Crusader Calls Somalia’s Conditions to Kenya “Weak and Unacceptable”

A Somali anti-miraa crusader has termed the recent demands that Somalia placed on Kenya before lifting the ban on miraa trade “weak and unacceptable.”

Abukar Awale Qaaddiid, the anti-miraa activist, said this immediately the new conditions were announced on Wednesday.

Furthermore, Awale said the conditions by the government are not beneficial to the country’s economy in any way.

He blasted the measures by authorities in Mogadishu as akin to “exchanging milk and honey for drugs that are detrimental to human health.”

This was in reference to one of the conditions announced by the government of Somalia.

In it, the government asked Kenya to allow Somalis to export goods such as “milk, honey, fish, rice, sugar, and meat.”

Awale said that Somalia should not compromise or sacrifice the life and health of its youth at the altar of financial gain.
