The Secretary-General of the Arab League has commended Somalia for the recent peaceful and smooth transfer of power.
On May 23, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo handed over the presidency to his successor, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The ceremony took place in Mogadishu at Villa Somalia.
Mohamud won the May 15 presidential elections after three rounds of voting. He defeated Farmaajo.
Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, the Arab League Secretary-General, spoke glowingly about the smooth transfer of power.
He congratulated President Mohamud during their phone conversation on Thursday.
Aboul-Gheit promised Mohamud that the Arab League would continue supporting Somalia to achieve political stability and reconciliation.
