Arab League to Support Somalia’s COVID-19 Response

The Arab League has pledged to support Somalia’s response towards the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed close to 900 people in the country.

Salah Ahmed Juneyd, the Arab League Ambassador to Somalia, revealed this during his meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Health.

Ambassador Juneyd held a meeting with Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, Somalia’s Minister of Health, in Mogadishu on Tuesday, August 24.

Dr. Abdinasir Sh Mukhtar, the Director General at the health ministry, also attended the meeting, which took place at Dr. Nur’s office.

Ambassador Juneyd conveyed a message from the Secretary General of the Arab League to the government and people of Somalia.

Further, he also assured the health ministry officials that the organization remains focused on partnership with Somalia.

Moreover, Juneyd informed the government officials that Arab League would continue supporting Somalia’s COVID-19 response.

On her part, Dr. Nur expressed gratitude to Ambassador Juneyd for the support her country has received from the Arab League over the years, especially in the health sector.

She assured the Ambassador Somalia remains committed to the partnership with the Arab League.
