Armed Forces High Court Issues Rulings on Appeal for Belet Hawo Terror Convicts

MOGADISHU — The High Court of the Armed Forces has issued formal rulings in the case of two individuals accused of orchestrating acts of terror in the Gedo region.

The defendants, identified as Mohamed Adan Abukar (also known as “Xeydar Muqtaar”) and Mohamed Qadar Ali Adan, faced charges related to a series of targeted killings and bombings that occurred in Belet Hawo throughout 2025.

Judicial Timeline

Following an extensive investigation, the Office of the Armed Forces Prosecution originally brought the case before the Lower Court.

On December 4, 2025, the lower court delivered its initial verdict, sentencing Mohamed Adan Abukar to 15 years in prison for terrorism offenses, while Mohamed Qadar Ali Adan received a 10-year sentence.

However, the Prosecution, dissatisfied with the initial terms, filed an appeal against the ruling, prompting the review by the High Court. The High Court’s recent intervention marks the final stage in the judicial process for the defendants regarding these specific charges.
