Army Captures Al-Shabaab Storage in Lower Shabelle

LOWER SHABELLE – The Somali National Army (SNA) has uncovered significant caches of weaponry and a massive underground water storage facility in the Jilib Marko area of Lower Shabelle. The discovery follows the recent liberation of the town from Al-Shabaab control and marks a major blow to the insurgent group’s logistical capabilities in the coastal region.

Security forces conducting clearing operations in the newly liberated zones located the concealed stockpiles in forested and low-lying areas between Jilib Marko and the “Number 60” area. Military authorities stated that the militants had intentionally buried these supplies in a desperate bid to maintain operations as government forces closed in.

Weapons and “Silent Storm” Success

According to SNA officials, the recovered military equipment includes shoulder-fired heavy weapons, light arms, and substantial quantities of ammunition. The cache also contained military uniforms that had been buried for an extended period, suggesting the group was preparing for a long-term insurgency or attempting to hide evidence of their presence.

The army indicated that these seizures demonstrate the severe setbacks experienced by Al-Shabaab due to the intensified “Silent Storm” operations currently sweeping through Lower Shabelle. These operations have already resulted in the capture of key villages and the elimination of several militant leaders.

Underground Water Facility for Leadership

In a separate but equally significant find, SNA soldiers discovered a sophisticated underground water storage facility. Commanders involved in the operation told National Media that soldiers uncovered multiple pits containing hundreds of plastic vessels and barrels filled with water.

Intelligence reports suggest these supplies were strictly designated for senior Al-Shabaab leaders and combatants operating in the area, stockpiled after the militants lost access to regular water sources due to the military blockade. This discovery mirrors recent successes by special forces, such as the Gorgor Commandos seizing medical supplies, further crippling the group’s ability to sustain its fighters.

Community Collaboration

Local community forces have played a crucial role in these victories. By collaborating closely with the national army, residents have provided essential information regarding former militant hideouts and defensive positions.

The Somali National Army announced that operations will continue along the coastal regions of Lower Shabelle. Troops are currently pursuing fleeing militants to ensure the group cannot regroup, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to establishing lasting security and stability across the region.
