Army Chief Withdraws SNA Guards Attached to Former Somalia Presidents

The Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Yusuf Rageh Odawaa, has withdrawn all SNA guards attached the country’s former presidents.

Consequently, the two former leaders of the Horn of Africa country will have to look for and hire private security guards.

The decision to withdraw SNA guards comes in the wake of the constant criticisms directed at President Mohamed Farmaajo by Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

President Ahmed and President Mohamud have emerged the two fiercest critics of President Farmaajo’s government.

Gen. Odawaa sent a letter to all service commanders around the country asking them to recall soldiers assigned “private” duties.

According to his letter, the guards should return to their respective barracks awaiting “fresh assignments.” He said the order complies with SNA rules.

Gen. Odawaa’s letter never mentioned the two former leaders by name, though. Since the former presidents are private citizens now, the order affects them too.
