MOGADISHU — The Somali National Army (SNA) has successfully conducted a planned security operation in the Rage-Eelle district of the Middle Shabelle region. The offensive is part of a broader, intensified national effort to eliminate Kharijite (Al-Shabaab) militants and protect vulnerable civilian communities from extortion and violence.
Gorgor Commandos Lead the Assault
The targeted mission was executed by units from the SNA’s 10th Division alongside elite operatives from the 1st Division’s Gorgor Commandos. The joint forces specifically targeted established militant strongholds in the rural villages of Daba-Gaab and Habal-Dub, situated approximately 20 kilometers west of the Rage-Eelle district center.
Military authorities confirmed that the early-morning operation effectively disrupted insurgent networks and neutralized hostile elements attempting to regroup in the area. This mirrors recent, successful clearance missions by elite forces elsewhere in the Middle Shabelle region.
Mine Clearance and Civilian Safety
Following the initial assault, Lieutenant Colonel Abdikarim Rashid, commander of the 10th Division, 1st Division, and Gorgor Commandos, stated that his forces performed additional reconnaissance missions to secure the perimeter. Crucially, troops conducted extensive mine clearance and strict security checks at locations commonly used by local residents to guarantee their safety and restore freedom of movement along vital transit routes.
The Federal Government of Somalia maintains its intensified, multi-front military campaign against Kharijite groups across the central and southern regions. Military officials have emphatically confirmed that these targeted clearance operations will continue unabated until complete security and lasting stability are established throughout the Shabelle river corridors.
