Mogadishu, Somalia – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahamuud Moallim, on Thursday welcomed the Chief of the Somali National Army (SNA), General Odowa Yusuf Rage, at the agency’s headquarters for high-level discussions on humanitarian priorities in newly liberated territories.
The meeting underscored the urgent need to scale up humanitarian relief for communities recently freed from Al-Shabaab control, where civilians face acute shortages of food, water, and medical services. Moallim briefed General Odowa on SoDMA’s ongoing operations, including the coordination of emergency aid deliveries and assessments of displaced populations.
General Odowa highlighted the military’s progress in clearing and securing key settlements in central and southern Somalia, stressing that the success of stabilization efforts depends on timely humanitarian interventions. He noted that sustained relief operations, combined with basic services and local governance support, are crucial to preventing militant groups from regaining influence.
Both officials agreed to strengthen civil-military cooperation to ensure aid reaches vulnerable populations without delay. They also reviewed strategies to enhance coordination between national security forces, aid agencies, and local administrations during the stabilization phase.
The talks come as Somalia intensifies efforts to integrate security gains with humanitarian and development initiatives. Officials said the meeting reflects the government’s commitment to a “whole-of-government” approach—ensuring that military victories translate into long-term peace, stability, and recovery for affected communities.
